From grade 5 and above, there is an additional language 3 that a student needs
to opt from the offered languages at school.
LANGUAGES OFFERED
• Language of Instruction
English is the language of instruction at Epistemo and is the major
connecting element across the curriculum. Teachers and students both use
the media centre/library to enrich their language learning as well as
learning in other subject areas. We have Reading and Writing programs to
support language instruction.
• Second Language
PP2 onwards students have a choice to opt for a second language between
Hindi (National Official Language), Telugu (Native State language), and
French or Spanish (Foreign language). Timetable gives a forty minutes’ class
thrice a week. The languages are taught by language specialized facilitators.
• Third language
Grade 5 onwards students have an option to choose a third language from
Hindi (National Official Language), Telugu (Native State language), and
French (Foreign language). Timetable gives a forty-five minutes’ class once
a week in order to introduce the basic level of listening, speaking, reading
and writing. The languages are taught by language specialized facilitators.
Between Second and Third language the child has to select Hindi as one of
the options.
As per the state government’s language policy, all the students are expected
to learn Telugu and hence we offer Telugu class one per week for the
students who have not opted Telugu as their second or third language.
HOMEWORK
• Homework will include reading at home (in early years, parents are
advised to read for 10 minutes every day to their kids) and math drills.
• Approximate time allocated for homework as per grade level is:
Grade 1-3: 30 minutes
Grade 4-5: 60 minutes
Grade 6-10: 90 minutes
• Homework is usually related to work that has been completed during the
week in class and includes mostly reflection or reading.
• Parents are encouraged to be involved but let the child finish his/her
homework independently.
